Response to Candidate Questions
1. Why are you seeking this office at this time?
For 27 years, I have proudly called Wake County home, dedicating my time to volunteering for veterans, families, and our remarkable Eagles. My journey in education began at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), where my passion to SOAR was ignited, and my career took flight. I am committed to strengthening the alumni association to build a lasting legacy that empowers future leaders. It is vital that we protect the significance of the association within our community and for all graduates of NCCU, ensuring it cannot be undermined by those who overlook its value.
2. What are your top three priorities for the chapter during your term?
1. Build Relationships with Leaders and Communicate Clearly
Every successful organization I have been part of has had visionary leaders who understand the importance of clear, consistent communication, which is essential to maintaining trust. I will focus on developing strong working relationships with these leaders to enhance the Raleigh-Wake Alumni's policy and decision-making processes.
2. Build and empower a Strong Team
Establishing a robust leadership team in Raleigh-Wake is critical for transforming vision into reality. We need to gather exceptional individuals—Eagles—whose values and skills align perfectly with their roles. Effective leaders will guarantee that resources are used wisely while fostering transparent communication about our goals, progress, and obstacles. This not only builds trust but also showcases our commitment to accountability, creating a strong foundation for success. Together, we will continue sharing updates through various channels, including media releases, newsletters, and town hall meetings.
3. Listen and Understand the Issues
Before taking action, I will engage deeply with Chapter leaders, members, and concerned citizens to fully understand the Chapter's needs and the challenges shaped by the NCCUAA, the University, and the policies of the UNC Board of Governors. This collaborative approach will ensure that our decisions are informed and aligned with our chapter's priorities.
3. How will you increase member engagement, participation, and financial membership within the chapter?
To effectively grow the Raleigh-Wake membership, understanding who our district's alumni are is paramount. By empowering your membership chair and committee to explore innovative ways to attract new members, we can significantly enhance our outreach. The membership chair should emerge as the chapter’s go-to expert on recruitment and should actively assist alumni in discovering their ideal roles. During my tenure, we successfully leveraged social media platforms to promote our association's achievements, fostering a stronger sense of connection among Eagles. By utilizing Facebook, Raleigh-Wake engages with alumni globally, keeps them informed about our initiatives, and shares inspiring stories, creating a vibrant community that encourages participation and belonging. Let's capitalize on these strategies to make our membership thrive!
